In construction

Research suggests that more than 50 percent of expanded perlite worldwide is used by the construction industry. Perlite plays an important role in a wide variety of construction-related uses including: as an aggregate in lightweight insulating concrete and plaster; as a loose fill insulation material for concrete masonry blocks, cavity walls, in residential homes; and in a variety of specialty applications including fireproofing sprays, chimney fills, interstitial floors, acoustical sprays, etc. 

In agriculture

Practice has shown high yields by using perlite in horticulture. It is used throughout the world as a component that improves the structure of the soil, providing access to oxygen, the optimum amount of moisture and thermal conditions. The distinctive abilities of perlite are sterility and resistance to weeds. Being a volcanic glass perlite is rot-resistant, inert and creates a hostile environment for parasites. In addition, due to its lightness it is very convenient to use in potted crops. Perlite is equally used in greenhouse and landscape plant growing, as well as in houses, for indoor plants and vegetables for growing tree seedlings.

In Industry

The use of perlite in the industry is diverse. Perlite filter powders are used to clean food products, chemicals of municipal water systems, swimming pools and ponds. Special filter materials are used to clean the surfaces of the seas and large bodies of water from oil emissions. In technique perlite is used as a filler for rubbers, papers, plastics and fillers for mortars and concretes. At the same time, perlite reduces the amount of expensive polymers and other binding materials, reducing the weight of products. Perlites are used as abrasive powder for grinding picture tubes, electronic circuit boards and other surfaces. Perlites are used in cold insulation and cryogenic technology, as well as to isolate isothermal tanks of liquefied gases: oxygen, hydrogen, ammonia, nitrogen, etc.
